Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons & Dragons, has passed away. I know that a lot of people dismiss D&D as a joke, something that geeks should be embarrassed about. But not me. For me, D&D (and the other role-playing games it inspired) was my formal training in creativity. It encouraged me to dream entire worlds, and taught me how to translate those dreams into stories that I could share. It showed me the potential for my creative thought, and independent learning. It was the foundation for my future as a designer and an artist. Thank you Mr. Gygax for your creation. We’ll miss you.
